When Paul Le Guen was manager of Glasgow Rangers during the 2006/7 season, he famously left Kris Boyd out of the side because he thought he wasn't a good enough player, it is true that Boyd will never possess the silky skills of a Ronaldinho or the imperious passing skills of a Zidane but one thing he is certainly able to do is put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis for club and country. Boyd began his career with Kilmarnock, making his debut on the last day of the 2000/1 season against Glasgow Celtic, the following term he played a much more prominent role making 28 league appearances and scoring 4 goals, his first senior goal coming against Motherwell. Boyd continued to make steady progress and in the 2002/3 season he scored 12 league goals in 38 appearances. In 2003/4 he finished as the club's leading goalscorer in the league with 15 goals from 36 matches and repeated the feat the following campaign with 17 goals from 30 league games, including equalling a Scottish Premier League record by scoring 5 goals in a match against Dundee United, four of those incidentally were scored in the first half. Boyd started the 2005/6 season with Kilmarnock but after scoring 15 goals in only 19 league games, including a remarkable run when he scored in 7 consecutive league matches he was transferred to Glasgow Rangers for a fee of £400 thousand and he started scoring immediately netting a hat trick in the Scottish FA Cup against Peterhead on his debut. He didn't manage a goal on his league debut for The Gers but opened the scoring against Livingston in his second game and continued to score freely for the remainder of the season so much so that he was top scorer for Rangers with 17 league goals. He enjoyed another excellent campaign in 2006/7 scoring 20 goals from 32 matches including hat tricks against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen. Boyd also enjoyed his first spell of European club football scoring goals against Livorno and Auxerre in the group stages of the UEFA Cup. In the 2007/8 season Glasgow Rangers will be competing in the Champions League, Boyd will relish the opportunity of pitting his skills against some of the world's top defenders. Boyd made his international debut in Japan scoring twice against Bulgaria in a 5-1 win. He got his first competitive goal against the Faroe Isles in a 6-0 win in Scotland's opening qualifying match for Euro 2008, he then got the vital opening goal against Georgia as Scotland won 2-1 and was on target also against Lithuania as Scotland maintained their impressive qualifying campaign for the European Championships to be held next year in Switzerland and Austria.
